5 Things You Must Know About A Bathroom Rug
One of the few rooms in the home that isn’t really made for wall-to-wall carpeting is the washroom. Anyone who has attempted this knows that before too long the moisture from hot showers and warm baths tends to create mold, mildew and a musty smell in the carpet. With a small bathroom rug that is placed on top of flooring you can still enjoy the warmth of carpet without the ill effects.
Typically when a person moves into a new place they are stuck with whatever flooring the previous owner or tenant chose. In the case of a bathroom it’s not uncommon for the floor to be in dire need of help. Many people simply don’t take the time needed to keep the floor clean. This can lead to stains that are impossible to remove. With a bathroom rug strategically placed, the stain becomes invisible and something of a distant memory. This is one of the reasons so many people have a bathroom rug in front of their sink or shower stall.
You can purchase them individually or in sets, depending on how large your room is and how much of the floor you’d like to cover. A bathroom rug set can consist of a large rectangular bathroom rug that is designed to be placed either in front of the sink or tub. Also in the set you may find a smaller bathroom rug with a cut-out for the toilet. This warms the feet when someone is using the commode. In addition to the rugs, many sets also contain a cover for the toilet seat. Some people love these while others, usually men, feel that they prevent the seat from staying up. It’s really a matter of personal preference.
The colors available are wide ranging and you’ll probably want to choose one that matches the décor you’ve already got in your bathroom. For instance if the walls of your bathroom are painted a light blue, a dark blue bathroom rug would look great. If the room is all white, look at it as a blank canvas and choose accessories, towels and a bathroom rug that make a bold statement.
Before buying one and bringing it home take note of the care instructions. Some have to be sent to the dry cleaners which can cost a pretty penny since they need to be cleaned on a regular basis. It’s better to get a bathroom rug that is machine washable. These tend to last for years if taken care of properly. Don’t put them in the dryer though as it can damage the backing. Instead hang them to dry and you’ll be amazed at how great they look once clean.
