Looking For Bedroom Decorating Tips?

Do you sometimes look around the house, and all you see is the same-old same-old? Maybe you're just tired of your color scheme, but you do want a fresh new look. One room that's especially fun and relatively easy to do is your bedroom. So where to start?

Bedroom decorating ideas fill the pages of popular decorating magazines. You might want to get a few of these. You'll be surprised how many ideas will spark from a casual browsing. Notice different elements of the rooms that you find attractive. Notice the effects of wood walls or different furniture pieces. Check pictures that show lighting you find attractive. Closely examine color schemes that grab you. Cut out the pages showing rooms you like. Cut and paste the various elements to a piece of white poster board. You'll find you've got a basic color scheme.

Your budget is of course, an important consideration. If you can afford to buy new furniture, go for it. If your plans and budget are more modest, you can still achieve a terrific new look at little cost. A little paint, some new curtains and new bedding can transform your bedroom.

Coordinating colors is often a problem. A visit to the fabric store is instructive. Find a patterned fabric you like. One color dominates, but usually there are a number of different colors in the piece which compliment and enhance the main color. The combinations of colors provide clues to colors you'd never thought of using together. These colors are good for accent pieces or window trim.

If your bedroom decorating involves painting, be careful. Those small paint chips can be deceptive. The general rule is to buy paint at least one shade lighter than your favorite. Once the color is multiplied all over your wall, it will appear significantly darker. Since painting is a big job, buy a small can of your proposed color to test your choice. Room lighting, whether natural or artificial, also affects color appearance.

There are a host of bedroom decorating ideas for your decorator's palette. A good tool for the purpose is a Pantone color wheel, the kind that fans out from a single point. Once you've settled on a color scheme and complimentary accent colors, go through your color wheel and mark with paper clips those you'll be using. Take it with you to fabric, furniture and lighting stores or wherever you'll be shopping. You'll not wonder if the color is just right.

When you're doing a major bedroom decorating project, get the big things first! If you're getting new bedding, get those items now. Then take another look to see how the size and amounts of color might influence smaller pieces. Maybe that purple damask throw pillow you had your eye on is no longer so perfect a match as you'd thought.

Color coordination is probably the most difficult part of your bedroom decorating project. These tips on getting started should bring you beautiful results!
