Tips For Chosing The Perfect Carpet Shampoo
The first time I heard about carpet shampoo, I thought I must have heard the speaker wrong. I mean, shampooing a carpet was not something that sounded like the activity of a normal person to me. I had heard of regular shampoos, organic shampoos and even shampoos with conditioners. But all of these were for human beings or their furry friends. I somehow found the concept of carpet shampoo (it isn’t even a living thing for heaven’s sake!) rather disconcerting.
But apparently carpet shampoo is rather popular. I say apparently because I have never in my life done anything more to a carpet than give it a thorough vacuuming and a brushing before hanging it out in the sun to dry. But carpet shampoo? I could not even begin to imagine using that. But curiosity finally got the better of me and I went online in a bid to read up about carpet shampoo.
To my surprise, I found that carpet shampoo was not a new phenomenon. In fact, they seem to have been around for almost as long as carpets and kids have been. That explained why I never heard about it. I don’t yet have kids and there has been no occasion for any of the users of the carpet in my house to drop anything on it. But houses with kids are reputed to be the largest consumers of carpet shampoo. You see, food or chocolate or even baby poo for that matter, has a way of attaching itself to carpets in such a way that conventional cleaning can do little to dislodge them. Such contaminants need something stronger – like a carpet shampoo.
Carpet shampoo not only manages to dislodge these dirt and other contaminant elements, it does so along with keeping the carpet smelling fresh. Carpet shampoo is also reputed to be good for the natural fibres that go into the making of the carpet. Never mind the fact that the animal that provided the material is long dead and gone and the material itself can no longer be shiny and lustrous after having spent almost an eternity as a carpet. The users (maybe I should call them followers!) of carpet shampoo swear by all these and more properties.
Finally, carpet shampoos are also reputed to be very effective in ensuring that the hairs or fibres of the carpet don’t spread themselves all around the house. The good housewife’s guide to carpet cleaning and maintenance recommends this fact as one of the key reasons to use a carpet shampoo.
