Where To Find The Best Ceramic Canister Sets
My grandparents had a small house on their property where they first lived when the bought their farm. It was very small, and I have no idea how they lived there with four children, but they did. They eventually moved into the very large house on the property and the small house was then used for a playhouse and as a place to store things people in the family didn’t need to use. I remember finding a lot of neat things in there. Though there are a lot of ceramic canister sets in there, I remember finding a very old metal set that my grandmother had used when they were first married.
For some reason there were a lot of ceramic canister sets there. Perhaps it was because people kept getting new sets as gift and they didn’t want to part with the old ones for whatever reason. I know when I went away to college I had my choice of the ceramic canister sets in the old house, and I took the set that I liked the best. I almost wanted to take the metal set, but it was far beyond use. The bottoms were rusted out and the lids did not want to come off.
I can’t say that the metal version was better than the ceramic canister sets that I saw, but I liked that they were so old. They had a design on them that you just don’t see any longer, and I was just in love with them for perhaps that very reason. I think it was also because they were something my grandmother had used long ago, and I loved to think of her. In the end I chose one of the ceramic canister sets that my grandmother had recently retired, and I took those with me so that I could think of her when I looked at them each day.
Today most of what you find in the stores will be ceramic canister sets, though there are other types you can buy. Right now the ones I have are made of glass. They were a gift from my aunt when I got married, but they are showing signs of wear. They were hand painted, but they do not have the same longevity as some of the ceramic canister sets that you can buy in the store. The paint is chipping and they are becoming rusted around the clasp. Even so, they have worked well for years, and I will miss them once I replace them some time this year.
